		<title>Accounting Manager / Supervisor, Brokerage Accounting (New York, NY, US)</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Accounting Manager, Brokerage Accounting - 1002976<br/><br/>Description<br/><br/>Performs moderately complex accounting functions while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, controls and procedures which may include: accruals, balance sheet, variance analysis, consolidation, fixed assets, general ledger, income statements (P&L), inter-company, journal entries, reconciliation, regulatory reporting, financial statements.   Participate in moderately complex accounting projects providing technical expertise and judgment.  Prepares, reconciles and communicates accounting information.<br/><br/><b>Primary Responsibilities</b><br/><br/>* Actively participate in month end close for large or multiple business units and legal entities. Provide business units with well written financial commentary on monthly results<br/><br/>* Develop and/or update moderately complex accounting information<br/><br/>* Prepare highly sensitive/complex financial statements and reports required by the company, corporation, external auditors or regulatory agencies<br/><br/>* Perform major account/cost analysis; identify and interpret trends, project data, forecast results<br/><br/>* Develop and implement new/enhanced systems and procedures to ensure adequate accounting and control for specific accounting functions<br/><br/>* May work with peers on various accounting projects<br/><br/>* May work as a work leader to other accountants in the group<br/><br/>* Prepare and develop new financial reports for top management and/or regulatory agencies<br/><br/>* May work with others (i.e. accounting department) by actively participating in the review of financial statements and preparing graphic/verbal analysis of company/product performance for use in periodic reports<br/><br/>* Respond to inquiries from management, auditors and regulatory agencies regarding accounting policies, procedures and problems<br/><br/>* Assist with the implementation of new accounting policies and procedures as well as administering existing policies and procedures<br/><br/>* Document internal operating and control procedures<br/><br/>* Keep abreast of the business and the impact of accounting issues on the business<br/><br/>* Participate in the development and completion of special projects as assigned<br/><br/>* May assist with the design or update of management information systems or databases<br/><br/>* May provide training and/or direct work of assigned professionals on specific assignments<br/><br/>* Other responsibilities as assigned<br/><br/>Specific Job Duties:<br/><br/>Work closely with business unit finance or Controller's staff on the following items:<br/><br/>* Business Units Accounting: responsible for (a) Monthly IBS and various monthly entries; (b) Quarterly Consolidation <b>Schedule:</b>s to Corp Accounting; (c) Balance Sheet Reconciliations for business unit; (d) provide external auditors with interim and year end audit request schedules and explanations.<br/><br/>* Revenue analysis: understanding of (a) Monthly Revenue streams; (b) provide detailed trend schedules and variance analysis of revenues; (c) book revenue and revenue sharing with counterparties.<br/><br/>* FINOP: responsible for (a) refreshing and tying out monthly FINOP  and detailed revenue summary; (b) researching month over month variance explanations and present to Finance and Controllers; (c) working with Finance for Actual vs Budget variance explanations<br/><br/>* FINRA Focus: Participate in monthly preparation of monthly FINRA Focus filings for 2 registered broker/dealers<br/><br/>* Financial Statements:  Preparation of  interim and year end Financial statements of 2 registered broker/dealers<br/><br/>Qualifications<br/><br/><u>Education and Experience</u><br><br/><br/>* A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent training plus a minimum of 6-9 years with progressively more advanced accounting or financial analysis/operations work experience<br/><br/>* CPA preferred<br/><br/>* MBA desirable<br/><br/><u>Skills and Knowledge</u><br><br/><br/>* Thorough understanding of accounting/financial principles<br/><br/>* Prior experience in an accounting environment<br/><br/>* Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational skills as well as ability to exhibit good judgment is required.
