Based in Boston, this position will be on the public policy team in the Fidelity Investments Government Relations and Public Policy Group (GRPP). The position reports to Vice President, Policy Development and Advocacy Support. It will support the Executive Vice President and entire group in communicating internally and to clients, help business units communicate to clients and customers on policy related matters, and support the government relations team in communicating to external opinion leaders. The position will be primarily responsible for executive communications: developing a range of materials from high-level visual concepts (PowerPoint) to more narrative public-policy related communications. The position will also help deliver consistency across various documents used by the group.

The group supports the entire Fidelity enterprise and works directly with a large number of policymakers and their staff at the federal and state levels and helps manage relationships with trade associations and opinion leaders with whom Fidelity often partners to help execute policy goals.

Position Responsibilities

* Primary Responsibilities would be to compose, draft and edit:

* Presentations for EVP and rest of team to give to Fidelity employees and clients about what's happening in government and how it impacts them

* Talking points about policy issues for client-facing associates

* Congressional or regulatory testimony for Fidelity executives

* Documents about policy issues for Fidelity clients (Fidelity.com, Fidelity Exchange, business unit publications to clients, fact sheets, etc.)

* Execute daily management of SmartBrief email

* Write / edit "Week in Government" email

The position would also have responsibility to:

* Help strengthen and create more uniform advocacy materials used by the government relations team

* Research policy issues, industry positions, think tank proposals, etc.

* Collect and maintain data to be used in briefings and advocacy materials

* Routinely update talking points about Fidelity to be used with policymakers

* Work with other members of the group to develop policy updates for the Fidelity Executive Committee and other business unit leaders, and prepare briefing materials for various meetings

* Help distribute policy materials to various internal audiences

* Maintain intranet site for GRPP and Fidelity Vote website

* Develop and edit communications for PACs

* Help with communications for grassroots/tops campaigns

The position focuses on distilling complex information and accurately articulating the impact of public policy proposals on Fidelity's businesses, products and services. It will include more writing than speaking. Initial duties will not include media strategy, outreach or community relations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience


* Proven writing and editing experience (executive communications experience helpful)

* Significant interest in and working knowledge of politics and public policy; direct experience in industry trade associations, federal or state government preferred

* Undergraduate degree in relevant field and 5-10 years of post-college work experience

Skills and Knowledge


* Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills

* Skilled and detailed understanding of how to present complex topics in a simple, easy-to-understand manner

* Ability to tailor writing to variety of audiences

* Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel; development of visual graphics through these programs critical

* Ability to understand public policy proposals and their impact on private industry

* Familiarity with the financial services industry and/or formal and informal legislative and regulatory processes; knowledge of retirement, tax and other public policy issues also a plus

* Broad thinking, ability to handle multiple issues, organized

* Collaborative team player
