The Department
Formed in 2005, the Fidelity Global Asset Allocation Group (GAA) is responsible for managing asset allocation mutual fund portfolios for both retail clients and institutional retirement clients. The GAA group is responsible for managing a product lineup that includes Fidelity's Asset Manager, Freedom Fund, Income Replacement Fund, Strategic Income and Strategic Real Return Portfolios. The group currently manages approximately $150 billion of client capital.
The Position
The Institutional Portfolio Manager (IPM) is responsible for aligning the investment objectives and requirements of the institutional investment marketplace with the ongoing management, innovation, development and delivery of asset allocation investment solutions provided by Fidelity's Global Asset Allocation Team. The IPM will serve as an integrated member of the investment management organization, with a focus on partnership with key Fidelity distribution businesses. The IPM will be a principal conduit to provide perspective and understanding regarding a spectrum of asset allocation solutions to a broad range of constituencies, including current and prospective clients, consultants, third-party gatekeepers, and other marketplace participants. Additionally, the IPM will focus on delivering strategic marketplace insight into the investment management organization, including ongoing competitor perspectives and industry trends, as well as providing overall investment leadership to Fidelity distribution and product management organizations.
Overall, the IPM will serve an influential role in reinforcing the identity of Fidelity's Global Asset Allocation Team in the institutional marketplace and contributing to investment priorities and practices within the Team. The IPM will be located in Boston, Massachusetts and will report to the Director of GAA Institutional Portfolio Management.
Responsibilities
The Institutional Portfolio Manager (IPM) is a member of the GAA investment team and is fully embedded within its portfolio management team structure. This level of integration is critical to provide:
* Refined transparency and understanding of investment process and strategies
* Effective sharing and a collaborative environment for investment solution discussion and decision-making
* Marketplace credibility to most effectively represent GAA and the overall Fidelity organization
* Ongoing delivery of marketplace perspective, developments and trends into the GAA investment organization
Investment Knowledge
The IPM will maintain a comprehensive and ongoing understanding of all GAA investment strategies:
* Detailed understanding of GAA investment strategy parameters, including all underlying investment disciplines
* Ongoing understanding of characteristics and developments across all relevant underlying financial markets
* Detailed understanding of GAA investment process and basic understanding of all underlying discipline investment processes
* Detailed understanding of GAA and underlying disciplines, current investment views and positioning
Fidelity Distribution Business Partnership
The IPM will be a principal conduit of the GAA Team to support Fidelity's multiple distribution businesses:
* Build and maintain partnerships and strengthen relationships across all relevant distribution businesses to broaden investment understanding and overall awareness of competitive strengths
* Serve as primary investment contact for clients, with a focus on providing transparency with respect to investment philosophy, process, strategy and performance
* Engage appropriate consulting and gatekeeper communities to provide investment transparency and to build organizational awareness
* Oversee quality and integrity of client and market-facing investment communication material
* Support focus on investment and product education, as well as thought leadership initiatives
Fidelity Product Management Partnership
The IPM will be a principal conduit of the GAA Team to support the product management group within the investment management organization:
* Provide leadership and oversight for the maintenance of comprehensive marketplace and competitor analysis, with a focus on differentiating competitor investment process, investment performance and distribution strategies
* Provide insight for product development enhancement and development initiatives
Qualifications
* Minimum 10-15 years investment management experience
* Minimum 5 years direct portfolio management experience
* Successful track record of direct representation of investment management strategies to broad spectrum of institutional constituencies
* Master's Degree
* CFA designation
* Highly effective and consistent written communication capabilities
* Highly effective and consistent verbal communication capabilities
* Ability to successfully articulate detailed mechanics of investment process
* Successful track record of investment presentation creation and delivery to broad spectrum of institutional constituencies
* Passion for financial markets, investment process and provision of effective investment solutions
* Comfort and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, with a frequent focus on gaining consensus across a broad spectrum of investment management, distribution, product management and senior management constituents
* Capability to balance resolve and temperament in response to pursuing opportunity through organizational structure
* Ability to Travel: frequently, with an overall expectation of an average two days per week
