Payroll Representative
Business Overview
HR Operations manages compensation, benefits and payroll policy and process. This includes identifying improvements and increasing operational effectiveness within the Human Resources department. In partnership with the line business, HR Operations identifies reporting needs and measurements.
The Payroll area processes 4 distinct payrolls for approximately 1500 salaried and hourly employees and contractors across Canada.
Position Description
The Payroll Representative is responsible to provide accurate and on-time delivery of payroll services. They must ensure the payroll is legislative compliant.
Primary Responsibilities
* Prepare and input payroll accurately and on time. This includes all required auditing and payroll balancing.
* Maintain and organize payroll records in a secure way to facilitate auditing and ready access to information for secure users.
* Ensure all contributions to employees' RRSP's, savings plans, etc. are accurately made and properly documented.
* Respond to employee inquiries about individual pay issues, departmental payroll needs, errors in deductions, confirmation of employment letters, etc. This includes the monitoring of an email account and telephone line.
* Gather and forward statistical and employee earnings information to various levels of government as required ensuring all statutory requirements are met on time.
* Prepare various reports as required for internal and external use.
* Prepare reconciliation of payroll GL entries for Corporate Accounting.
* Ensure all third party payments are made accurately and on time. This includes monthly benefit remittances, garnishments and any other fund requests.
* Manage benefit enrolments, changes and terminations.
* Assist with year end cycle including the preparation of T4/T4A's, Releve 1's and T2200.
* Prepare Record of Employment documents as outlined in the appropriate legislation.
* Ensure employee change requests are forwarded to the Fidelity HR partners in the US to update the HR system.
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Licenses
* High school diploma with post secondary degree or diploma preferred.
* Minimum 3 years payroll experience
* Experience with more than one province is desired.
* Enrolment in or completion of (Certified Payroll Administrator) designation preferred
Skills and Knowledge
* Above average skills in excel, with ability to do Vlookup and other formulas, pivot tables
* Strong organizational skills
* Strong problem solving skills
* Strong communication skills, oral and written
* Comprehensive knowledge of payroll regulations and requirements, including knowledge of provincial Employment Standards legislation.
